Water Quality

Triennial Review

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) Surface Water Quality Bureau on August 11, 2008 issued a Triennial Review Discussion Draft of proposed amendments to the State of New Mexico’s surface water quality standards. NMED requested written comments by Sept. 30, 2008. The BDD Board provided written comments to the NMED in a letter dated September 24, 2008 and signed by BDD Chair Rebecca Wurzburger and BDD Vice-Chair Virginia Vigil. The NMED will issue actual Proposed Amendments in 2009. Also, in 2009, the New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission will consider NMED’s Proposed Amendments, hold a public hearing, and make its decisions regarding the amendments to the surface water quality standards. NMED will then implement the amended standards.
