Statement on Memorandum of Agreement with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
After more than three years of repeated formal requests to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) to implement a formal Memorandum of Agreement, the BDD Board is asking assistance from our legislators and congressional delegation to implement the formal agreement.

Also includes three attachments, an Update on the Six Action Steps BDD Board Asked of DOE and LANL to Protect Source Water Quality as of September 22, 2009 (prepared by Rick Carpenter and Norm Gaume); copy of March 11, 2009 letter from BDD Board Chair Virginia Vigil to the National Nuclear Security Administration, U.S. Department of Energy requesting negotiations to establish a Memorandum of Understanding; and copy of November 1, 2007 letter from then-BDD Board Chair Harry Montoya to National Nuclear Security Administration, U.S. Department of Energy, requesting Los Alamos National laboratory take six specific action steps to protect public drinking water supplies.

BDD Project Manager Rick Carpenter,
Technical Testimony Before the State of New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission in the Matter of the Triennial Review of Standards for Interstate and Intrastate Surface Waters. The Buckman Direct Diversion Board (BDDB) requests that the New Mexico Water quality Control Commission promulgate the New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) proposed New Mexico water quality standards, as amended by NMED, to implement health-based water quality criteria for the public water supply as to five Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) origin radionuclides in the Rio Grande upstream of Cochiti Reservoir (NMED Proposed Amendments 20.6.4.114). The BDDB requests these changes so that our customers are properly informed regarding the source water quality in this segment of the Rio Grande.
